Visitor Suggestions

Let visitors suggest new locations on your map and moderate submissions from your dashboard

Last updated: February 22, 2026

Visitor Suggestions

Visitor Suggestions is a Pro feature that lets your audience submit new places directly on your public maps.

You decide how suggestions are handled:

  • Manual review (approve or reject)
  • Auto-approve (publish immediately)

Who Can Use It

  • Map owner: Must be on Pro to enable suggestions.
  • Visitors: Anyone viewing your public map can suggest a location.

Enable Suggestions

You can enable this in either place:

  • Map settings dialog from the map page
  • Map management page: /dashboard/maps/[mapId]

Settings:

  • Allow visitor suggestions - turns submissions on/off
  • Auto-approve suggestions - instantly converts submissions into live locations

If suggestions are disabled, visitors will not see the Suggest Location control.

Visitor Submission Flow

When enabled, visitors see Suggest Location in map actions.

  1. Click Suggest Location
  2. Click on the map to place the suggestion pin
  3. Submit details in the dialog

Fields by visitor type

  • Anonymous visitors: Name + coordinates
  • Signed-in visitors: Name, description, category, tags, and image

Moderation Workflow

Open Dashboard > Submissions to review pending suggestions.

You can:

  • Filter by map and status
  • Approve/reject single submissions
  • Bulk approve/reject multiple submissions
  • Add optional rejection notes

Approval creates a real location on your map.

Notifications and Counters

  • The dashboard sidebar shows a pending submissions badge
  • Owners can also see pending counts on map pages

Safety and Spam Controls

Mapiry applies rate limits to submission creation to reduce abuse.

If a visitor hits a limit, they will see an error with retry timing when available.

Best Practices

  • Start with manual review, then move to auto-approve when trusted
  • Keep categories organized so approved suggestions are easy to classify
  • Review submissions regularly to keep data fresh
