Cookie Policy
Last updated: January 17, 2026
Mapiry uses minimal cookies — only what's essential for authentication and functionality. We don't use advertising cookies, marketing cookies, or third-party tracking cookies. Your privacy matters to us.
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and provide information to the website owners.
Mapiry uses cookies for the following purposes:
Authentication Cookies
When you register for an account and log in, Supabase (our authentication provider) sets cookies to keep you logged in across sessions. These cookies are essential for account functionality and cannot be disabled if you want to use a registered account.
Anonymous Map Edit Tokens
When you create a map without an account, we store a unique edit token as a cookie (and in localStorage) that allows you to edit your anonymous maps later.
mapiry_edit_tokensPreference Cookies
We use cookies to remember your preferences, such as sidebar state. These cookies enhance your experience but are not essential for core functionality.
sidebar:stateWhat we DON'T use: We don't use analytics cookies (like Google Analytics), advertising cookies, social media tracking cookies, or any third-party cookies for marketing purposes.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
mapiry_edit_tokens | Stores edit tokens for anonymous maps you create | 1 year |
sidebar:state | Remembers if you prefer the sidebar open or closed | 30 days |
sb-* | Supabase authentication cookies (for logged-in users) | Session or persistent |
In addition to our own cookies, some third-party services we use may place cookies when you use Mapiry:
Supabase
Our authentication provider may set cookies for session management and security. These are essential for logged-in users.
Supabase Privacy Policy →Mapbox
Our map visualization provider may use cookies for map tile caching and performance optimization.
Mapbox Privacy Policy →Cloudinary
Our image hosting provider may set cookies when you view images hosted on their CDN.
Cloudinary Privacy Policy →These services do not set advertising or tracking cookies on our behalf. They only use cookies necessary for their specific functionality (authentication, map rendering, image delivery).
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings preferences. However, if you limit the ability of websites to set cookies, you may worsen your overall user experience:
- ⚠️If you block authentication cookies, you won't be able to stay logged in to your account
- ⚠️If you block edit token cookies, you won't be able to edit anonymous maps you create
- ⚠️If you block preference cookies, your UI preferences (like sidebar state) won't be saved
To manage your cookie preferences in your browser:
Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals to websites that you visit that you do not want to have your online activity tracked.
Mapiry respects user privacy by default: We don't use external analytics services (like Google Analytics), advertising networks, or cross-site tracking. Our custom analytics use IP hashing for privacy preservation. Because we already minimize tracking, the DNT signal doesn't change our behavior — we're privacy-focused regardless of this setting.
In addition to cookies, Mapiry uses browser localStorage to store:
Anonymous map edit tokens
Duplicate of cookie storage for reliability
Theme preference
Whether you prefer light mode or dark mode
Rate limiting data
To prevent abuse of the contact form (stored locally only)
localStorage data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers unless explicitly needed (e.g., when claiming anonymous maps after registration).
We may update our Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Cookie Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
